Locking Stainless Steel Snap

Locking stainless steel snap

The stainless steel locking snap combines security with the ability to quickly disconnect. As can be seen in the picture with a quarter coin for size comparison, the locking snap is only a little longer than the 1/8" quick link. The quick link weighs 20 grams, the locking snap 30g. The locking snap is just as secure, but unlike the quick link it will never bind. The locking snap is quicker to open, and safer because being spring loaded it doesn't stay open when you let go of it. The capture ring allows it to stay exactly where you put it on the line instead of flopping around.

The locking snap is the only snap we trust our gear to other than the quick link. Unfortunately even though it's stainless steel, the quick link threading binds after only a few dives, requiring pliers to open it. All other snaps, including tuna clips, have the potential to open on their own (we know because we've known this to happen) resulting in lost gear or worse.
