Hi Y'all"
After making 15 blanks, including one for Tin Man (my son), Grizwald, and myself, i took some time off to get caught up on some other stuff. I'm working on some furniture for my grandsons now, but will be building some blanks within the next few weeks.

I build the blanks out of laminated FEQ (Used to be called "Burmese") teak. Guys use all kinds of wood, but I haven't built any out of anything but teak. Usually, they are 4 or 5 vertical laminates with one horizontal one across the top. I alternate the grain in the laminates to offset any stresses in the wood, and I use West System 105 epoxy since it has a proven record of success. I use a 5/16- 3/8 lam to best utilize the very pricey teak, but could make the outside lams thicker and the inside ones thinner if desired.

My blanks are guaranteed unconditionally! If you are unhappy with it for ANY reason, you just ship it back to me and I will replace it with a new one or refund your money. In any case, I eat the freight. So far, everyone has been delighted with my blanks.

Usually, I hang the blanks vertically for 3-4 weeks, checking them every week to see if any twisting or warping has occurred. I have yet to see any deviation from the original readings, but people just seem to feel more comfortable if they hang for awhile, so I do it (My standard is less than .015" deviation).

After 4-6 weeks, I check them and plane them to final dimensions (I make them about 1/8" oversize just in case I have to do any straightening). I built a device that holds the blanks absolutely straight and true during glue up, consequently the blanks come out straight and true and stay that way.

I charge $175 for a typical blank 1.5" wide by 2.0" high by 60" long. I had to go up a little when I went to all FEQ teak. I charge a little more for bigger blanks and a little less for smaller ones, but I build all of them as though my reputation is at stake on each one. I can also build you a custom sized blank for pretty much any size you want. Price will be dependent on how big the blank you want is. If you want an unusual sized blank I will ask for a 50% deposit. On the "normal" sized blanks you pay when it's ready to ship after you have seen pictures of the blank.

I have orders for a few blanks but will be making some more while I am set up. I have a small shop in my house and a VERY understanding wife so I usually try to do a bunch of wood workinf projects, then switch to metalworking.

If you don't have the tools to do it yourselfI, I can cut an enclosed wood track ($30) and add a 6" delrin muzzle reinforcement ($15), or cut a dovetail ($30), and install a pinned delrin enclosed track for $60. If you prefer the Neptonics UHMW track I can cut the dovetail, install it, and pin it for $30 (you supply the UHMW track). I need the UHMD track, though, so I can be sure it slides into the dovetail.

I haven't installed any trigger mechs for customers, however, so while I have the milling machine to do it (same as Tin Man's, but I got mine first), I would have to think about that a little before I agreed to do it, and would need the trigger mech. to be sure it fit right.

Lots of info! As a "newbie" on this forum I don't want to get crosswise with anyone here, so I'll go to the section that offers things to buy or sell. Meanwhile, PM me if you are interested or have questions.

Good luck on the builds. Building a speargun is a very personal thing, and I will help any way I can.

Tin Man's "Old Man",
Bill

Bill, it would be good to see some pics here of the blanks and/or spearguns that were made from them. For the next build I know the exact final dimensions so I won't even need to plane the blank and can get straight to the other work. I'm also considering having you do the delrin insert and track.

Here are pics of the gun I made from your blank, I'm very happy with it http://www.freedivingspearfishing.co...sed-track.html

This hybrid started with a stock from Wood Guy. This one wasn't laminated, but it does show the quality of the straight, tight graned wood that he uses.

My little bay gun is a Wood Guy laminated stock, and it's taken quite a bit of abuse. None the worse for it.

Great blanks. I need to post my pics of the final product but these blanks are amazingly square and straight. (within a few thousandths of an inch)

Woodguy the site won't let me pm or email you so I will give you my email. My email is eamon_kromka@hotmail.com. great to hear about what you've got. I'm looking into building a 55"-60" rear handle enclosed epoxy track gun.
