New forum features and changes
Since the forum was put together I learned quite a bit about this software. One of the things I learned is that it can be modified to add features and enhance functionality. It's interesting to sift through the hundreds of mods that people came up with and try out ones that I think will be useful. There are already quite a few in place that you take for granted. For example the who's online link on the top of the home page to quickly show who's here is a simple modification. Other mods may not be so obvious but can be useful so I thought I'd tell you about them here as I install them.
I found and installed a neat one today that adds a "new posts" link to the bottom of every thread. This is handy because I navigate primarily with the new posts link. So this new link saves you the trouble of scrolling all the way up to the navigation bar to click on new posts.

New little addition, "New Private Message" button under the Quick Links menu. Very convenient to send a PM without going to the control panel first.

Not really a mod just a feature I think everyone should be aware of. This is an option to receive a popup notification when you have a private message. You can select it in user control panel under options. This is good in case some of you guys rarely check your private messages. Also in the top right corner of every page in the login/logout box it tells you if you have any unread messages.

Added a "Who's Online" link to the navigation bar. I find myself using it often it saves me a few clicks, enjoy.

Added a quick reply box in private messages. No need to click on reply, it's right under the message. This way however it doesn't quote the pm you're replying to.

I'm not a fan of the Shoutbox. To me, it's a little distracting and does not really add any value. Just my two cents.

I know what you mean. I thought of installing it last night because I wanted to let whoever I was conversing with on a thread know that I was leaving but didn't want to put it on the thread. Since then I found another couple of useful things about it. For example it updates and tells you which threads have just been replied to so I don't have to click on new posts all the time. Do you feel it takes away too much space from the page?
