I don't want to side track Dan's Club logo post ( Dan please move my post if needed), but I thought I would say what drew me to join a freedive club 25 miles from my my home and support it.
Thirty years ago a Neptune meeting was a place to see the pictures of the big WSB and Yellowtail your buddy shot. A place to see and feel a fresh teak gun with sparkling slip tip and shaft, or hear the well told story's of high adventure in Baja or the South Pacific. Our meetings were the place where ''Fish for the Future'' and White Sea Bass hatcheries were brought to life. Prop 132 Gill net control was a huge focus of our members requiring long days and many dollars to be raised.Big WSB seem to be every where on shore now.
We didn't just tell new members how to dive and be safe, we took them along with us on the journey. Five generations of kids watched a flame throwing dragon be towed by swimming (and drinking) divers through the Naples Canal at Christmas time.
The internet has changed some of that and has been a very useful tool to entertain, educate and form social ties, but nothing beats the brotherly love ( and beer) shared with a fellow Long Beach Neptune or LA Fathomier brother you have dove with for 30 years.
I applaud the efforts of the Los pistoleros along with The Long Beach Neptunes ,Fathomiers and other dive clubs to keep this spirit alive in this new world of shoot it, film it, and post it ....all in the same day.
Enjoy the journey and please dive safe all, here on this forum we are one. Let us all swim side by side.
Cheers, Don Paul
